First description : Classic descriptions from the late 19th century such as «summer prurigo» precede the term EPL, which became established in the 20th century.
Epidemiology : Prevalent (~10% globally; 0.65–21% depending on the country). More frequent in latitudes farther from the equator; typical onset in the second–third decade of life; predominantly female. Seasonal course (spring/summer) with a “hardening” phenomenon (decreased outbreaks with continued exposure).
